Richard Mahoney

Richard Griffin Mahoney was born April 10, 1945, in New York, NY, and died on January 29, 2025, in Portland, Maine. He was the son of Gerald and Margaret Mahoney and spent his early years in southern Connecticut before moving to Newton, Massachusetts. His sister is Nancy Mahoney Cohen of Palo Alto, California.

Living next to a tennis club as a youngster and learning to play from his father, Rick became proficient and later managed private tennis clubs while teaching members at all levels. Rick’s other occupations included owning an auto body shop and being an auto claims adjuster for USAA.

He married Anne Ringer and they had three children: Tracey Anderson, Kristin Walsh (Peter) and Matthew Mahoney. Matt predeceased Rick. Tracey and Kristin’s children are Mackenzie Nickerson (Jason), Griffin Anderson, Timothy Walsh, Alex Walsh and Suzanne Walsh.

Rick later married Marilyn Jasper and they lived in Worcester, Massachusetts, before moving to Scarborough, Maine, in 2006. Marilyn’s children are Rachel Boylestad (Eric) and Mark Jasper (Sharon). Her grandchildren are Sammy Boylestad, Lindsey Boylestad, and Hannah Jasper.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints became an important element in Rick’s life. He was a member of that Church in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.

Tennis occupied much of Rick’s leisure time until in later years he joined the afficionados of pickle ball. Woodworking was another avocation as he made fine furniture for friends and relatives in his expansive basement wood shop.

A memorial service will be held on April 12, at 2:30 pm at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 29 Ocean House Road, Cape Elizabeth, Maine.
