Margaret French

Margaret (Peg) French of Wells, Maine, passed away at home October 22, 2026, after a long illness, surrounded by love and family.

Peg was born January 25, 1949, to the late Marshall and Ann Marie Porter in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. She grew up in Dalton, graduating from Wahconah Regional High School with the class of 1967.

She worked in the Central Berkshire Regional School District, retiring from Kittredge Elementary as the school librarian, a job she loved.

She leaves her devoted husband, Keith French, whom she married on September 17, 2005. She also leaves a brother, Marshall Porter and his wife Michelle of Pittsfield, MA; a daughter, Darlene Gaudette and her husband Craig, of Oxford, Maine; a son, Bruce Cullett and his wife Greta of Peru, Massachusetts. Peg also has stepdaughters, Heather Zimmerman and her husband Joel of Hatfield, Massachusetts, Holly Munce and her husband Rob of Berlin, New Hampshire, and Hope Brisbois and her husband Nate of Chaska, Minnesota. Her sister, Carol Polidoro, formerly of Pittsfield, MA, passed away in 2022.

Peg also leaves 9 grandchildren: Morgan of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Mehgan of Maine, TJ of New Hampshire and Josh of Maine, Gavin and Brodie of Hatfield, Hayden and Redyn of New Hampshire and Britney of Massachusetts.

Peg loved camping and she loved Disney, spending time with her family and friends, especially hosting family Thanksgiving dinners.

A special thank you from our family to The Beacon, Hospice Care of Southern Maine. The staff gave exceptional care to Peg.

A Mass will be held at St. Agnes Church, Main Street, Dalton, Massachusetts, on November 14th at 12 o’clock, burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery. A gathering at Ozzie’s Restaurant in Hinsdale, MA, will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. for family and friends.
