Joseph Lacy

–

Arundel, Maine

Joseph R. Lacy, 77, of Saco, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026, at The Maine Veteran’s Home in Scarborough, Maine, after a long battle with Type I Diabetes. Joseph was born in Providence, Rhode Island on August 19,1948, the son of Joseph Leroy Lacy and Ruth Lacy (Drummond). Joseph had one older sister, Carol Perasso (Lacy) from Rhode Island.

Joe graduated from Hope High School in Providence, RI in 1966, married his wife of 57 years, JoAnn Lacy (Potter), became a father to his eldest daughter, Pamela, before enlisting into the military. While stationed in the country of Turkey, his mother died after her battle with breast cancer. Joseph R. Lacy was honorably discharged from the Air Force and returned to the United States and became a father to his eldest son Paul in 1969. Joseph also joined the Boilermakers (Union Local #29) out of Quincy, Massachusetts where he worked for 25 years.

Joseph traveled all over the North East and eventually moved to Maine for work, and adding two more children to his family, Josette and Joseph II. Known for being “Big Joe” standing 6’4”, a huge jokester, with an extremely funny sense of humor, Joe loved family time with lots of food, watching his favorite TV Shows and brightening up an entire room with his love to laugh and tell funny stories, creating cute and funny nicknames to Josette’s close high school friends, some neighbors and many of the hospital staff at the Veteran’s Hospital that he became close to. Joseph will always be remembered for his amazing sense of humor, and making an impression wherever he went.

Because he did not have any brothers, he did have four best friends that were like family to him his entire life: Paul Altruda, Monty Monteiro, Jack Toohey, and unfortunately pre-deceased by Louie Farroco.

Joseph is survived by his wife of 57 years, JoAnn Lacy (Potter), his oldest child Pamela Lacy (57) of Saco, his daughter Josette Lacy (48) of Saco, his youngest son, Jospeh Lacy, II (46) of Saco). Joseph is survived by his older sister Carol Perasso (Lacy), and her husband Albert Perasso (both of Rhode Island). Joseph had no grandchildren but had many nieces and nephews.

Joseph was pre-deceased by his mother Ruth Lacy (Drummond) in 1969, his step-mother Marion Lacy in 1989, his father Joseph Leroy Lacy in 1991, his son Paul Joseph Lacy in 2011 and son-in-law Kevin Roy in 2024.

The Lacy Family is incredibly thankful to the Veteran’s Home in Scarborough, Maine. They treated Big Joe with kindness, respect, and humor.

A celebration of Life is being planned for the Spring of 2026 at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Springvale, Maine. More details to follow at a later date.
