Berwick Maine - Janet Marie (Potter) Brown, age 78, passed away peacefully Thursday January 18, 2024, at Wentworth Douglas Hospital with family by her side after a lengthy time of failing health. Born on July 12, 1945, in Ellsworth Maine, she was the daughter of the late Irving and Elsie Potter.
Having moved to Berwick when she was younger with her parents, Janet graduated from Berwick High School class of 1964. After school Janet worked for Dover Shoe Company and later having to retire early due to health concerns, she would continue to work from home for Colby Shoe Company.
Janet had a huge heart and would make sacrifices of herself for the benefit of family and friends alike. Janet enjoyed spending time with family and friends including birthday parties or cookouts where she made her famous homemade macaroni and potato salads. She had a passion for nature and animals! Over Janets lifetime she owned many animals including cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, and roosters. Janets love for animals ranged from domestic to wild such as rabbits, deer, birds, butterfly’s, moose. She also cherished many kinds of flowers and after her mother passed, began collecting angels as a remembrance. Janet was extremely sentimental and would treasure all gifts she received regardless of monetary value.
In the early years Janet enjoyed talking with friends on the CB radio and went by the handle of "Covergirl" as well as sitting at her kitchen table drinking coffee, smoking her Raleigh 100's cigarettes playing Yahtzee and the Dice games with friends and family on Friday/Saturday nights. Janet was fun and had the "gift to gab" as she loved to talk to everyone she came in contact with. We joke that Janet was known to talk to a wrong number caller on the phone for half an hour. Janet loved her Avon and would sell it as well as buy. Music was a huge part of Janets life and her love of country and western was heard on a daily basis around the house. Some of her favorites were Reba, Shania, Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty to name a few.
Janet is survived by her children Wendy Brown, Bill Brown and his girlfriend Ann, Ralph Cann, brothers Robert and Irving Potter Jr. Also grandchildren Faith Ann, Shanna, Ralphie Cody, Charlie and great granddaughter Saige. She also leaves behind several cousins and second cousins as well as friends.
A celebration of life will be held this spring with details to come and Janets final resting place will be with her parents in Ellsworth Maine.
